Phanes India: A Legacy of Tradition and Culture

Founded in 1992 by Mr. Pankaj Debnath, Phanes India was established with a visionary purpose: to bring India's rich rural heritage of handicrafts, Kantha weaving, hand block printing, and traditional clothing to the forefront of the urban Indian market. Rooted in a deep appreciation for India's cultural wealth, Mr. Debnath aimed to bridge the gap between rural artisans and urban consumers, ensuring that traditional art forms found a deserving space in modern India.

In 2013, the reins of Phanes India were passed to Mr. Bapi Debnath, the son of the founder. With a broader vision to preserve and promote India's cultural legacy, he expanded the scope of the company to resonate with younger generations. Recognizing the significance of sustainable and authentic artistry, Mr. Bapi Debnath established an organic dye, hand block printing, and hand-woven unit, reinforcing the company's commitment to eco-friendly and traditional methods.

To deepen his understanding of the craft, Mr. Bapi Debnath worked closely with rural artisans, gaining firsthand experience in dyeing, hand block printing, and weaving. Through his efforts, Phanes India created opportunities for rural workers to showcase their skills on a larger stage. Many of these artisans have now achieved recognition with prominent handicraft companies while maintaining their association with Phanes India.

Under Mr. Bapi Debnath’s leadership, Phanes India has become a platform where tradition meets innovation, ensuring that India's cultural heritage is preserved and celebrated. His dedication to empowering artisans and promoting their craft exemplifies the belief that it is the responsibility of every Indian to keep their traditions alive for future generations.

Today, Phanes India stands as a beacon of cultural preservation and innovation, connecting the vibrant legacy of Indian artisans to the modern world while nurturing the next generation's appreciation for tradition.
